Wise Man Maduro Toro by Foundation Cigar

El Güegüense, Foundation Cigar, Mexican San Andres, Nick Melillo, Toro, Wise Man MaduroI can’t believe it has been almost a year since I smoked the Wise Man Maduro cigar by Foundation Cigar. I had just discovered the same with the original Wise Man (El Gueguense) the other day.

Once lit, deep malty dark chocolate and coffee with a medium blast of pepper spice on the retrohale greet my pallet.

At the second third, the coffee flavors become dominant with a very smoky finish with the pepper spice wafting toward my nostrils.

Approaching the final third the coffee flavors ramp up to a strong espresso with a black pepper spice retrohale that lets you know it’s there.

Finishing the final third down to the nub. This was a cup of dark black coffee at the finish

I’ve enjoyed the Wise Man Maduro by Foundation Cigars ever since the first time I fired it up. Today, I was paying attention to this Toro sized stick.

The smoke was abundant and the draw was perfect for the two-hours I eked out of this cigar. Sweet chocolate hit me on the cold draw that remained throughout, although more subdued once lit and warmed up. Medium bodied coffee and earth flavors arrive and remain for pretty much the rest of the cigar until the final third, the ash only lasting a half-inch or so.

The last bit started to become a little harsh even with my patient nursing, so I put it down for a while and came back to a very enjoyable smoke the rest of the way once it cooled down.

I’m thinking I’ll let the rest of these rest for a few months before I light it up again.
