Undercrown Sun Grown Robusto by Drew Estate

COVID-19 Day 861
Drew Estate, Ecuadorian Sumatra, Nicaragua, Robusto, Sun Grown, Undercrown, Undercrown Sun Grown Thru an easy draw comes creamy smoke of earthy tobacco flavors of pepper and cedar with a slightly sweet finish and zingy pepper spice on the retrohale. Quite a bit different than I was expecting from a Sumatra wrapped cigar.

It was smooth sailing with this effortless Undercrown Sun Grown for the rest of the way while I enjoyed catching up on some Streaming Content at the Cigar Lounge today.

Until next time

COVID-19 Day 643
Drew Estate, Ecuadorian Sumatra, Nicaragua, Robusto, Sun Grown, Undercrown, Undercrown Sun Grown Well, here I am at the Casa Du Larson on this Christmas Day of 2021… and it’s friggin freezing outside! And that’s with one of those outdoor fire pit thingies.

Anyway, through the teeth shattering and shivering was able to eke out some enjoyment from this delicious Undercrown Sun Grown in Robusto by Drew Estate.

I can promise you that the next time I’m out here on the deck of Casa Du Larson the temperatures will be above 50°F (10°C)!

Until then…

COVID-19 Cigar Walk, Day 623: 2.0-Mile Cigar
Drew Estate, Ecuadorian: Sumatra, Nicaragua, Sun Grown, Undercrown, Undercrown Sun Grown, Robusto Today was a “Wow” Inaugural 2.6-Mile Cigar-Walk with this Undercrown Sun Grown Robusto by Drew Estate Cigars. A perfect Walking Companion even in these Frigid Temperatures (24°F, -4.4°C) … a Razor-Sharp burn needing no touch-ups made for a very enjoyable morning trek… Sweet!

I can’t believe that I hadn’t taken this Drew Estate blend out for a walk before… this might have to happen more often. Yes, it was a special morning!

COVID-19 Day 596
At first light, through an open draw came black peppercorn tobacco flavors that tamed down about an inch or so in. After the initial pepper flavors that lingered on my palate, slightly sweet and creamy tobacco flavors start to take over… and make my day!

I was rejoicing at how perfectly smooth the draw was on this Undercrown Sun Grown Robusto by Drew Estate today… so much so that I decided to just relax and enjoy it.

This is definitely a Box-Worthy cigar; I can’t wait to smoke it again, and again, and again!

COVID-19 Day 546
Drew Estate, Ecuadorian Sumatra, Nicaragua, Sun Grown, Undercrown, Undercrown Sun Grown I treated myself to this Undercrown Sun Grown in Robusto by Drew Estate and rejoiced in its Ecuadorian Sumatra-Seed Sun Grown wrapper today!

Once lit, earthy natural tobacco flavors with a slightly sweet finish are coming to me through a perfectly smooth draw delivering copious amounts of smoke in the “Drew Estate” way… malty cocoa, cedar, and dark coffee soon join the party with a decent black pepper spice on the retrohale.

I’m at the last third, and thoroughly enjoying the smooth smoke of this cigar… the lagging sweetness has left the party, but plenty of creamy malty tobacco flavors remain with black pepper flavors coming forward.

An excellent choice to start my day… Until next time!

Drew Estate, Ecuadorian: Sumatra, Nicaragua, Sun Grown, UndercrownAs a fan of the Undercrown Maduro, I held hope that the Undercrown Sun Grown would be a continuation of this lineage.

Don’t get me wrong, this isn’t a terrible cigar, but it fell short of my expectations considering…

The Undercrown Sun Grown burned beautifully with a perfect smoky draw and even burn line, the flavors just fell short of my expectations.

I did get a dry dirty earth, woody cedar, and a little pepper on the retrohale. I don’t know; this cigar didn’t get me there today. Maybe another time it will.

I enjoyed the Robustos of the Undercrown Sun Grown by Drew Estate that I’m going to try the smaller Corona (5.6×46) this morning.

Today I was with the Black Unicorn so I didn’t have my usual focus on this cigar other than to say that it was a joy to smoke this with abandon and not have to be accountable for flavors — Enjoy, Just Enjoy

Drew Estate, Ecuadorian Sumatra, Sun Grown, Undercrown
As the Drew Estate Undercrown Legend grows… This is a wonderful cigar and more of a surprise to me.

After all the deserved accolades of the Undercrown, I didn’t expect much as my perception of the Undercrown Sun Grown was that this was going to be another attempt to get one more cigar SKU registered before the 2016 U.S. Federal deadline.

Let’s forget about all that and also forget that the start of the Undercrown Sun Grown was nothing to write home about, but about halfway into the first third, she started to talk to me and I finally “Got It”!

The look and construction of this were beautiful as I tried to show in the photo to the left. It felt soft and spongy (under filled?) pretty much throughout so I opted to do a small Dickman Cut and go from there. This turned out to be the perfect solution for a perfect draw and burn throughout the entire smoking experience. I was rewarded with Creamy, Malty, Wood (Cedar), Coffee (Espresso) flavors until the last third, a lot changed. Everything got kicked up a notch or two and not necessarily in a good way since I was cruising along beautifully until this happened.

It wasn’t necessarily a bad thing, although the next time I smoke this, I’ll try to slow down on the last third and see if that makes any difference. I have one more Undercrown Sun Grown from Sellwood Cigar, so we’ll see how that one goes, but I’m thinking that this will have a place in my TupperDor and maybe even replace the Undercrown Shade as one of my “Preferred” morning smokes
