“Olde World” indeed. Before I begin, this Rocky Patel Olde World Reserve was gifted to me by Cigar Sensei aka #bmwMark (Pacific Motorsports in Portland, Oregon) and I have a huge hunch that at the least, this cigar has been resting since 2012 or more. Rocky Patel stopped manufacturing these in 2012 with this same cigar band. The new releases have a different band on them.
A snip and a straight-cut and my cold draw delivers beautifully aged dark tobacco and chocolate.
Once lit and this dark, dry maduro wrapper that hails from Costa Rica starts providing rich, earthy tobacco flavors on billows of dry smoke. Somewhere I heard that Costa Rican tobacco is code for tobacco from embargoed lands…?
Earth, coffee, cocoa, leather, and a black pepper spice come to me. This cigar is very rich and bold but medium bodied. The second third, and I think I’m in the “Sweet-Spot”, creamy smooth; dark and rich are words that come to mine. The final third the cigar picks back up and the earthiness and coffee are the main flavors all the way to the end.
What impresses me most about the Rocky Patel Olde World Reserve is that a little tug and I receive a mouthful of deep rich smoke with dark coffee now the dominant flavor. The draw is perfect.
I was lucky to be gifted this cigar that has been aged for more than 10+ years.
Thank you #CigarSensei
