COVID-19 Cigar Walk, Day 33: 2.5-Mile Cigar
Truth be told, I was feeling pretty smug when I selected the Oliva Serie V Melanio in Robusto to help me finish my 5.25-Mile Cigar-Walk this morning. I just had a feeling that this Serie V Melanio was going to be a strong and flavorful finish to my morning fitness efforts.
This Robusto was the first out of the box from a purchase from July 2018 and this specimen didn’t disappoint and was a delicious treat that was made even more enjoyable in the first morning light (picture on the right).
Smoke ’em if you’ve got ’em!
What can I say about the Oliva Melanio Serie V that hasn’t been said before?
Once lit, I got an immediate smooth rich draw of complex flavors with just the correct amount of spice on the retrohale. There have been times before when the pepper spice was more pronounced. Today it decided to stay in the background as a subtle flavor note on my tongue.
Creamy smoky bread … if that’s too pedestrian of a description for this cigar, let’s say “cake” since I detect a sweet note in the background somewhere… cocoa?
If you like rich thick chewy flavorful smoke, then this cigar is for you. The Oliva Melanio Serie V deserves all the accolades it has received.
This is Box Worthy
I think I’ve smoked all my Oliva Melanio Serie V No. 4s so I have to dig into my other sizes. This morning I’m starting with the Robusto Serie V Melanio.
The Melanio Serie V never fails. Mouthfuls of chewy smoke, full flavors of the aged Liga Jalapa Tobacco and a good amount of pepper on the retrohale; I can count on it
Halfway and espresso flavors start to make their way into the copious amounts of chewy smoke; the char line is flawless. Rich bold flavors will reward you. This is a complex cigar, probably best approached with some experience.
I’m still learning
I wanted to start the day off with something small yet tasty.
The Oliva Serie V Melanio No. 4 is my choice today.
I’ve had a few of these smaller Petite Corona Melanios before and I’ve enjoyed them all. After yesterday’s two-hour My Father, “The Judge” Toro, I’m appreciating the simple but complex flavors that this little bundle of joy brings.
At 4.5 inches with a 46 Ring Gauge, this is a little powerhouse that I’m keeping around (I have at least 3 different vitolas of these in the TupperDor).
