This was my first time with this AJ Fernandez cigar the La Herencia Cubana Core in Toro. I recently saw a fellow BOTL (Brother of the Leaf) smoke one these and was curious about so I mentioned it to him and before I knew it, this arrived.
This La Herencia Cubana Core by A.J. Fernandez is a 6.0″ x 52 Toro sized cigar wrapped in Ecuadorian Habano Sun Grown Ligero with all kinds of good tobacco inside; Esteli Habano Viso, and Nicaraguan Esteli Ligero, Jamastran ligero, Pennsylvania Broadleaf, Nicaraguan Ometepe Ligero for the filler… Wow, on paper this looks to be a great cigar.
This is a beautifully constructed cigar that looks like a chocolate bar… chocolaty Brown. I used a punch-cut on this Box-Pressed beauty as I usually do with these squarish types of cigars. Once lit, I was welcoming mouthfuls of earthy cocoa tobacco smoke with a pretty mellow retrohale of some high notes of spice.
At the halfway point after about 90 minutes, the creaminess is still at the forefront of this smoking experience although the flavors have ramped up and deepened a bit, the retrohale is still on the mild side.
Almost two hours later, I’m at the end of my journey with the La Herencia Cubana Core by A.J. Fernandez. If I found a non Box-Pressed version of this in a smaller size, I’ll be all over it since this would be a great first cigar of the day… and, if purchased correctly, very affordable.
