110th Anniversary Fernando León Family Reserve Box Pressed by La Aurora Box Pressed

10/12/2020
COVID-19 Cigar Walk, Day 205:
Box-Pressed, Dominican Corojo, Don Fernando León, Fernando León Family Reserve, La Aurora, Toro A First Time experience with this Vitola… new (for me) in this “Aged” 110th Anniversary Fernando León Family Reserve Box-Pressed. This cigar is the only Box-Pressed cigar to come from the La Aurora Cigar factory…

This is a fine and dandy cigar… maybe more… For a commemorative cigar in noting the 110th Anniversary of the Fernando León Family Reserve Box-Pressed, this was a different Corojo experience for me. Silly me, I was expecting the same or similar fuller flavored Nicaraguan Corojo “leathery” experience, but that was not to be. Instead through an effortless draw with some resistance but not much were slightly lighter tobacco notes that were almost minerally with some baking spices in the background to make it interesting.

Overall a fine cigar for my first time and priced correctly too. I’m anxious to revisit it’s Corona Gorda Vitola that I smoked last December (2019). It was because of the favorable memories of that cigar that I was open to purchasing a couple of these larger and Box-Pressed 110th Anniversary Fernando León Family Reserves

2013:
This year’s IPCPR trade show is featuring a limited-edition set of smokes—the León Family Reserve. The special box set will consist of 16 cigars, eight each of the Guillermo León, and Fernando León blends. What makes them special? Both are box-pressed, which is a first for La Aurora.

All sixteen box-pressed cigars measure 6 inches by 54 ring. La Aurora says that they’ve been toying with the idea of a box-pressed cigar for some time, but this was the first opportunity that presented itself. Only 1,000 boxes made.- Cigar Aficionado
