COVID-19 Day 548
Caldwell, Caldwell Cigars, Corretto, Dominican Republic, Eastern Standard, Eastern Standard Sungrown, Habano, Hybrid Mexican, Robusto Through a generous draw of this Eastern Standard Sungrown by Caldwell Cigars come smooth tobacco flavors of coffee, cocoa, and leather with a touch of dry hay and a retrohale of soft black pepper flavors.

I’m just finishing the first third and I’m wrought with burn issue as it appears only one side I this cigar wants to burn properly… Oh well. We continue…

Aside from the burn issues, the draw of this Eastern Standard Sungrown was pretty decent and I was able to enjoy the “dry” tobacco flavors of coffee, cocoa, and leather for most of the way.

I’ll spark this again for sure… we’ll see what she brings next time.

Caldwell Cigars, Dominican Republic, Eastern Standard, Hybrid Mexican/Habano04/07/2019

I was hoping to be able to confirm in my mind and palette that the Caldwell Eastern Standard was going to make the cut and find a place in my TupperDor.

Honestly, because I was conversing with people at my table I wasn’t able to give it my all, but what I did notice was creamy malty flavors, cocoa, coffee, and leather.

After reviewing my previous notes, looks like this is at least 5-Pack Worthy.

Caldwell Cigars, Dominican Republic, Eastern Standard, Hybrid Mexican/HabanoA snip and cut and my cold draw gave me malty earth and barnyard (usually a good sign for me).

Once lit, deep rich earthy flavors and the pepper spice that’s not overwhelming are delivered as promised. There is some resistance to the draw, but, not bad. We’ll see what happens when she opens up.

I just read on ” HalfWheel” that this is supposed to be Caldwell’s version of a Connecticut… OK, I’ll bite. If this is a Connecticut, I wish they were all like this… wishful thinking, I know.

“Eastern Standard Sun Grown uses a hybrid Mexican/Habano wrapper over an Ecuadorian binder and fillers from the Dominican Republic and Mexico. For context, the Eastern Standard is Caldwell’s take on a Connecticut cigar, though the wrapper used for the original line is not a pure Connecticut shade; rather, that cigar uses a Connecticut and Brazilian Mata fina hybrid wrapper over Dominican and Nicaraguan fillers.” – HalfWheel.com

Starting the final third and this cigar has hit its stride planting itself right inside the flavors that I look for, creamy earthy leather with a good amount of pepper spice waving in and out of my retrohale. They’re a couple of flavor notes that are missing for me but I’m willing to overlook that for now, I don’t mind.

This is 5-Pack Worthy for me
