Asylum 13 Authentic Corojo by Asylum 13 Cigars

COVID-19 Day 357:
So its been told that Christian Eiroa has long maintained that his farm is the only plantation in Honduras growing true Corojo tobacco from original Cuban Corojo seeds, which were obtained by his father in the late ’80s. These seeds differ from later hybrid varietals such as Corojo ’99 or Corojo ’06. Most of the tobacco grown on Christian’s farm is Corojo. Eiroa doesn’t sell his tobacco to any third-party companies, but his signature Honduran Corojo can be found in brands such as CLE, Eiroa, Wynwood Hills and Aladino (which is owned by his father and brother). Cigar Aficionado, Crop Report: El Corojo Farm, Honduras

Now, informed with this background information, the Corojo seed tobacco used in this Asylum 13 Authentic Corojo was grown on Christian Eiroa’s family tobacco farm… so, onward to my very first puff with this Asylum 13 Authentic Corojo by Asylum 13 Cigars.

Once lit, through a very open draw came copious amounts of dry smoke that carried dry woody tobacco flavors with some citrus notes in the background… not what I was expecting.

At the second third, earthy notes appear on my palate along with some bread flavors and a spice that carries on to the retrohale. At the last third, I kept hoping that more earthy notes and leather would show up, but this was not to be.

Overall, this was a pleasant smoking experience for my first time with this Asylum 13 Authentic Corojo. I doubt if I’ll pursue any more of these, but if someone offered one to me, I would certainly embrace and enjoy it.
