8-5-8, 858 Maduro, Arturo Fuente, Connecticut BroadleafThe 858 Maduro by Arturo Fuente, in general, aren’t known for their beauty… but they sure bring on the flavor of classic aged tobacco. In my opinion, these deserve to be a stocked standard in my TupperDor for its consistency time after time.

Today the cold draw I typically take almost made me want to take a bite of this chocolate smelling cigar… let’s get it fired up.

Once lit, right off the bat… leather and black pepper spice invade my senses with a spicy retrohale to match. `I love the rustic charm of this cigar.

At the halfway point, woody notes (cedar) and coffee join the party through a nice draw. The retrohale let’s me know it’s there with its spice.

At the last third, not much change at least in the addition of new flavors except for a slightly sweet cocoa, reminiscent of the cold draw. I’m glad it showed up to join the leather and aged tobacco flavors.

This is an affordable cigar that belongs in my TupperDor.

8-5-8, 858 Maduro, Arturo Fuente, Connecticut BroadleafI’ve been a fan of the Arturo Fuente 858s since shortly after I discovered the Hemingway Short Stories and that was over 20-years ago. Today is my first visit with the Arturo Fuente 858 Maduro.

Dark rich coffee bean colored wrapper covers this rustic cigar. Once lit, earthy tobacco fills my senses. The draw on this cigar this morning is a little tight, we’ll see how she smokes.

As I approach the halfway point, the flavors are wood, leather, and earth with a little cocoa in the background. I was expecting a little more spice on the retrohale, but it’s not meant to be this time. I was hoping for the draw to improve, so I got my trusty toothpick and started poking at the end to try to help.

Overall, I’m a fan and will be with this very affordable cigar. This is an anytime, anywhere cigar.
