COVID-19 Day 503
Through an open draw this Padron 1964 Anniversary Exclusivo Natural starts out with earthy dry cocoa powder, cedar, tobacco flavors with a decent pepper spice on the retrohale.
Into the second third, creaminess appears with some coffee and leather notes are starting to come into the picture… At the halfway point this cigar wakes up and starts to deliver more of what I was expecting… Although subtle, I’ll call this a sophisticated cigar of nuanced tobacco flavors delivered thru an excellently constructed cigar… The draw is flawless!
At the last third is when this Padron 1964 Anniversary Exclusivo showed me what it was all about. Truth be told, I was starting to wonder what all the fuss was about these “Premium” Padron Cigars because of such a mild start to the smoking experience.
What a difference 2-3 years of additional cigar smoking experience and palate development does to your ability to detect and enjoy premium tobacco flavors.

Once lit, smooth balanced flavors riding on mouthfuls of coffee, earth, and sweet cocoa in the background. The pepper spice hasn’t shown up yet and I expect it will.
At the start of the second third the pepper spice ramps up on the retrohale adding an extra something to this well-rounded and balanced smoke of earth and coffee from a perfect draw and a razor-sharp char line. No burn issues; this is smoking beautifully.
An hour and 30 minutes and I’m calling an end to this beautiful cigar. This is probably one of the “Standard” “Benchmark” cigars you have to stock in your collections for those special occasions or when you want to go “Ahhhhhh”.

Sweet cocoa greeted me on the cold draw with barnyard aromas wafting from the toothy chocolate-colored wrapper.
My punch-cut experiment continues creating a perfect draw that brings dry cocoa to my palate, but no pepper-spice to report of on the retrohale, just creamy soft smoke of aged tobacco.
The premium quality of the Padron 1964 Anniversary Exclusivo (Natural) is that it comes from aged tobacco (4-years). This allows tobacco leaf flavors to develop and mature; overall, often building in complexity while mellowing the smoking experience.
I’m not getting any distinguishing flavors I usually get from other cigars; keep in mind this is a step up from what I’m usually smoking so the aged tobacco I’m guessing is making this a very smooth smoking experience. At the end of the first third, a nice pepper spice on the retrohale is a nice addition to the experience.
At the last third, this cigar is a silky treat for aged tobacco lovers who appreciate this premium cigar.
